Jos, Nigeria: Muslim Bombing of Christian Churches Christmas Day 2011

I am writing this on Christmas Day 2011. My Christmas festivities ceased on hearing the news. I cannot remain silent any longer. On this day of the birth of a new Life Muslim killers have sown hatred and death once again. I'm referring to the latest of a very long, centuries old tradition of mass killings that dates back to the time when Muhammad carried out personally the slaughter of 600-900 Jews of the Banu Qurayza tribe and witnessed by his 12 year old wife, according to the Muslim source Ibn Ishaq, Sirat Rasul Allah. 1

On the day of a new birth, the birth of divine life, love and freedom, Islam has struck again. The news of the bombings of Christian churches in Nigeria on the border between the Islamic north and the Christian south has shocked the world. The voice of hope, life and freedom, the voice of Pope Benedict has called it a senseless killing. All men of good will are literally sickened by the culture of death that Islam is spreading and has always spread. Christians are especially sickened but once again can find room for forgiveness. Here is a brief account of the sickening news, a tragedy on a day of joy. The text is taken from:

Jos, Nigeria (CNN) -- A string of bombs struck churches in five Nigerian cities Sunday, leaving dozens dead and wounded on the holiday, authorities and witnesses said.

The blasts mark the second holiday season that bombs have hit Christian houses of worship in the west African nation. In a statement issued late Tuesday, Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan called the bombings "a dastardly act that must attract the rebuke of all peace-loving Nigerians."

In a statement issued late Tuesday, Nigerian President Goodluck Jonathan called the bombings "a dastardly act that must attract the rebuke of all peace-loving Nigerians." ...

Baba said local people were already blaming the violent extremist Muslim Boko Haram sect, which has targeted Christians as well as Muslims its members consider insufficiently Islamic. In 2010, five churches in Jos were attacked while residents were celebrating Christmas Eve. The blasts killed dozens in Jos, which lies on a faith-based fault line between the Muslim-dominated north and the mainly Christian south.
The truth cannot be hidden. The harvest of war, terror, hatred and death sown by Muhammad is being reaped globally. Dante Alighieri, in The Divine Comedy, placed Muhammad in the eighth circle of Hell. 3 I only wish that the peace of God could be upon his followers. However, they will never find peace until they are inspired by the truth of God which is a message of universal love for the whole of mankind and not for Muslims or Christians alone.

For the time remaining on this Christmas Day I shall pray for the victims and their loved ones. For the victims that their peace and joy in the Lord, that knows no bounds, will stand firm and be of comfort. Jesus' message is one of love, peace and joy:
"that my joy may be in you and your joy may be complete" (John 15:11)

"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give to you. Not as the world gives do I give it to you. Do not let your hearts be troubled or afraid." (John 14:27).

And a message for the Muslim killers:

"Do not be afraid; for behold, I proclaim to you good news of great joy that will be for all the people. For today in the city of David a savior has been born for you who is Messiah and Lord." (Luke 2:10)

Christmas Day is the day of the coming of life, love and freedom, and I hope that one day you, too, may accept Jesus as your Lord and Saviour and allow his forgiveness, peace and joy to penetrate your hearts. No one is beyond God's mercy and forgiveness. May you discover the transforming power of God, through Jesus Christ and become men of peace and love, protectors of life instead of killers of life. May the blood of the Christian martyrs that you have spilt lead you to the blood of Christ that will heal your blood-stained consciences.

To our readers: On Islam and violence see the articles on Jihad and Holy War on this site. These will tell you whether these Muslim killers are acting in a way that conforms to their sacred texts or not. This is necessary to be able to tell whether these killers are following Muhammad or not, whether they are "normal" Muslims or "extremists" as many would have us believe.

I shall leave you with these thoughts in mind that they might guide us all in our relations with Muslims. These words are the supreme expression of the Christian jihad (struggling in the way of God):

Bless those who persecute (you), bless and do not curse them. Rejoice with those who rejoice, weep with those who weep. Have the same regard for one another; do not be haughty but associate with the lowly; do not be wise in your own estimation. Do not repay anyone evil for evil; be concerned for what is noble in the sight of all. If possible, on your part, live at peace with all. Beloved, do not look for revenge but leave room for the wrath; for it is written, "Vengeance is mine, I will repay, says the Lord." Rather, "if your enemy is hungry, feed him; if he is thirsty, give him something to drink; for by so doing you will heap burning coals upon his head." Do not be conquered by evil but conquer evil with good. (Romans 12:14-21)
Christians will exert the utmost effort (jihad) in the way of God. We might not always succeed but this is our way, our "shariah", our way to break the chain of violence. It is a struggle but if we bear in mind the words of our way, Jesus Christ (I am the way, the truth and the life John 14:6) then we shall walk hand in hand with the omnipotence of God himself:
Whoever remains in me and I in him will bear much fruit, because without me you can do nothing. (John 15:5)

I have the strength for everything through him who empowers me. (Phil. 4:13)

It is human nature to want to retaliate but it is not Christ's way, God's ways are different:

For my thoughts are not your thoughts, nor are your ways my ways, says the Lord. As high as the heavens are above the earth, so high are my ways above your ways and my thoughts above your thoughts. (Isaiah 55:8-9)

Update on the Nigerian Situation 5 January 2012

Bomb Blasts Rock Northeastern Nigeria As Ultimatum From Islamists For Christians Expires

These terrorists have given an illegal ultimatum to all Christians living in the area to leave in order to allow the expansion of Islamic influence.

Here is the news on 5th January on the expiry of the ultimatum taken from: http://news.africanseer.com/latest-additions/164409-nigeria-blasts-rock-north-as-islamist-ultimatum-expires.html

No casualties were reported after the attacks in Maiduguri and Damaturu late Wednesday, claimed by the same purported spokesman for Islamist group Boko Haram who on Sunday issued a three-day ultimatum for Christians living in Nigeria's mainly Muslim north to leave. ... In a separate incident, two civilians were shot dead on the outskirts of Damaturu, a hospital source said. ... Late Sunday, the same Boko Haram spokesman warned that in the wake of Jonathan's emergency decree, the group would confront soldiers and those Christians who did not heed the warning to leave. ... The country's police chief issued a statement calling on residents to ignore the ultimatum. "Nigeria is one united and indivisible entity where citizens are at liberty to reside where they desire and practise whatever faith," Hafiz Ringim said in the statement.

Also from this site: http://www.taipeitimes.com/News/world/archives/2012/01/07/2003522669:

“I was leading the congregation in prayers. Our eyes were closed when some gunmen stormed the church and opened fire on the congregation. Six people were killed in the attack and 10 others were wounded,” he said. 4

It is once again our duty to reveal that what has happened on 5th January just as what happened on Christmas day is yet another implementation of a strategy initiated by Muhammad himself. In order to consolidate and expand the influence of Islam in the first years in Medina, after his flight from Mecca in order to consolidate his power he expelled the three Jewish tribes whose members would not convert to Islam. He gave an ultimatum to the Banu al-Nadir to leave or fight and be killed just as these Muslims are now doing in Nigeria. Muhammad first approved the killing of the leader of the tribe who was a poet and who dared reveal the dark side of Muhammad. He had the poet leader - killed to drive home the seriousness of his intention. The desired effect was obtained:
Our attack upon God’s enemy cast terror among the Jews, and there was no Jew in Medina who did not fear for his life. 5
No Jew was safe from the wrath of Muhammad. We have a reign of terror as far as Jews are concerned. All we need to do to see that the strategy is exactly the same today is to substitute north Nigeria for Medina and Christians for Jews. This expulsion of the Jewish tribe is recorded in the Qur'an:
All that is in the heavens and all that is in the earth extols Allah's glory: He is the Most Mighty, the Most Wise. He it is Who in the first assault drove forth the People of the Book that disbelieved from their homes at the first gathering of forces. You did not believe that they would leave, while they too thought that their fortresses would defend them against Allah. Then Allah came upon them from whence they did not even imagine, casting such terror into their hearts that they destroyed their homes by their own hands and their destruction was also caused by the hands of the believers. So learn a lesson from this, O you who have perceptive eyes. If Allah not decreed banishment, He would certainly have chastised them in this world. As for the Hereafter, the chastisement of the Fire awaits them. (Q. 59:1-3)
The people of the Book are the Jews and Christians. Here it is said that Allah (read Muhammad) "drove forth the People of the Book ... from their homes ... casting ... terror into their hearts" just as this islamic group is now trying to do in Nigeria. These Muslims are simply imitating Muhammad's policy and early Islamic expansionist politics and are acting in full accord with their sacred texts. They are not extremists if Muhammad is used as the yardstick to measure normal behaviour as Muslims would universally agree that he should be.

After victory at the battle of Badr Muhammad gathered together those of the Qaynuqa tribe in the market and uttered the following ultimatum:

Meanwhile there was the affair of the B. Qaynuqa’. The apostle assembled them in their market and addressed them as follows: ‘O Jews, beware lest God bring upon you the vengeance that He brought upon Quraysh and become Muslims. You know that I am a prophet who has been sent – you will find that in your scriptures and God’s covenant with you.’ They replied, ‘O Muhammad, you seem to think that we are your people. Do not deceive yourself ... 6

Here Muhammad is actually saying 'convert to Islam or fight and be killed'. They refused to leave, they were besieged and had to surrender and Muhammad would have killed them all after having surrendered had it not been for the intervention of their ally Ibn Ubayy. They too had to leave. Unfortunately for humanity and particularly for Nigeria at this moment in time these are the true Muslims imitating the founder of Islam and they are sowing hatred and terror just as once Muhammad himself did. His spirit still lives on.

NOTES

1 See A. Guillaume, The Life of Muhammad, A Translation of Ibn Ishaq's Sirat Rasul Allah, Oxford University Press, Pakistan, 2011, pp. 450-482. Here is an excerpt from this text regarding the slaughter of the Jews:

Then they [the Jews of the Banu Qurayza tribe] surrendered, and the apostle [Muhammad] confined them in Medina in the quarter of d. al-Harith, a woman of B. al-Najjar. Then the apostle went out to the market of Medina (which is still its market today) and dug trenches in it. Then he sent for them and struck off their heads in those trenches as they were brought out to him in batches. ... 'Aisha [one of Muhammad's wives] said: Only one woman was killed. She was actually with me and was talking with me and laughing immoderately as the apostle [Muhammad] was killing her men in the market when suddenly an unseen voice called her name. 'Good heavens,' I cried, 'what is the matter?' 'I am to be killed,' she replied. 'What for?' I asked. 'Because of something I did,' she answered. She was taken away and beheaded. 'Aisha used to say, 'I shall never forget my wonder at her good spirits and her loud laughter when all the time she knew that she would be killed'. ... Then the apostle sent Sa'd b. Zayd al-Ansari brother of b. 'Abdu'l-Ashhal with some of the captive women of B. Qurayza to Najd and he sold them for horses and weapons. The the apostle had chosen one of their women for himself, Rayhana d.'Amr b. Khunafa, one of the women of B. 'Amr b. Qurayza, and she remained with him until she died, in his power. The apostle had proposed to marry her and put the veil on her, but she said: 'Nay leave me in your power, for that will be easier for me and for you.' So he left her. She had shown repugnance toward Islam when she was captured and clung to Judaism. (pp. 464-465). The words in square brackets are mine, not part of the original text.
Aisha obviously could not distinguish between laughter as a normal expression of highs spirits and the hysterical laughter, a result of the madness that had overwhelmed her at witnessing such brutal acts and knowing that she would also suffer the same fate. There is some justification for Aisha as she must have been about 12 years old at the time. All of this was done in the name of God by someone who claimed to be God's messenger, God's apostle, the last of God's prophets. How sick all of this is! I am even more sickened by a modern academic Muslim teaching comparative religion in an American University who can write a book entitled: The Heart of Islam: Enduring Values for Humanity. Muhammad is at the heart of Islam, the imitation of Muhammad is the heart of Islam. You cannot be a true Muslim unless you believe in and imitate Muhammad. At the heart of the Muslim faith is the shahada: "There is no god but God, and Muhammad is the messenger of God." Are these brutal killings in the life of Muhammad and his followers today meant to be enduring values for humanity!!? They are the heart of Islam, they are Islam's enduring values!! How can such a book be written honestly and bypass almost completely the evil encountered in Islamic sources!? Would you, reader, endorse such values? Muslims all over the world do. Would you, reader of these words, absorb the spirit of this man? Muslims all over the world have. These Muslim killers in Nigeria have! May God forgive them. We absorb the Spirit of God: "the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control". (Gal. 5:22)

3 Dante Alighieri (1265–1321) the greatest Italian poet and man of learning. He wrote La divina commedia (The Divine Comedy), his masterpiece in which several Muslims are represented including Muhammad. Dante encountered Muhammad in the 28th canto of hell:

A cask by losing centre-piece or cant
Was never shattered so, as I saw one
Rent from the chin to where one breaketh wind.

Between his legs were hanging down his entrails;
His heart was visible, and the dismal sack
That maketh excrement of what is eaten.

While I was all absorbed in seeing him,
He looked at me, and opened with his hands
His bosom, saying: "See now how I rend me;

How mutilated, see, is Mahomet;
In front of me doth Ali weeping go,
Cleft in the face from forelock unto chin;

And all the others whom thou here beholdest,
Disseminators of scandal and of schism
While living were, and therefore are cleft thus.

The Italian original:

Già veggia, per mezzul perdere o lulla,
com'io vidi un, così non si pertugia,
rotto dal mento infin dove si trulla.

Tra le gambe pendevan le minugia;
la corata pareva e 'l tristo sacco
che merda fa di quel che si trangugia.

Mentre che tutto in lui veder m'attacco,
guardommi, e con le man s'aperse il petto,
dicendo: «Or vedi com'io mi dilacco!

vedi come storpiato è Maometto!
Dinanzi a me sen va piangendo Alì,
fesso nel volto dal mento al ciuffetto.

E tutti li altri che tu vedi qui,
seminator di scandalo e di scisma
fuor vivi, e però son fessi così.
